About the event

Learn to Skate USA ~ Basic Skills

Week 1:

Week 2:

Tuesdays 5:20-6:20pm

Wednesdays 4:20-5:20pm

For skaters in kindergarten and above (usually 6y and above), Learn to Skate USA Basic Skills, is the first step in skating curriculum that includes six levels (Basic 1-6). The first stage of skills forms a strong foundation for your skaters to explore the world of skating. All will progress at their own pace working toward mastering each skill. Skaters interested in pursuing figure skating further then move onto Free Skate skating curriculum.

Mandatory Fees

All skates must be a current member of US Figure Skating as Learn to Skate USA members as well as a current Union Arena Skating Club member. The annual membership runs from July 1 - June 30th and provides basic membership to the national organization and sports accident insurance.

Learn to Skate USA Fees… $18.00

Coaches will conduct evaluations during the last week of class in order to determine placement for the next session. If a skater is ready to advance before the given evaluation date, coaches will arrange to have an earlier evaluation. We ask families to support our coaches in the evaluation process and understand that we all learn and skate at our own pace.

Policies -

Please read Union Arena Skating Club’s full Policies found on our website.

Helmets are required for all skaters Basic Skills 1-6 and skaters ages 10 and under regardless of level.

Skaters must have signed Waiver and Medical forms on file before stepping onto the ice.

Skaters must follow all posted rules of Union Arena Skating Club and the rink.

Skaters are expected to respect other skaters, coaches, and parents showing good behavior and sportsmanship at all times both on and off the ice. Coaches monitor and enforce safety on all sessions, whether or not it is the skater’s own coach.

Freestyle Skating and Private Lessons

Skaters who have passed LTS USA Basic 5 and above who would like more practice can sign up for Freestyle sessions. An ettiquette form for practice ice must be reviewed by your coach and signed by the skater annually before entering practice ice. Freestyle session are a good opportunity for skaters wishing to advance in their skating to practice their skills individually or take private lessons. If you are interested in private lessons (at any level), they are arranged directly between a skater and a coach. You can also have private lessons during their practice ice time.
